Veteran Story: Thomas Pehow (1890-1918) was born in Gayndah, to Joseph Pehow and Lucy Gooey (1865-1897). He was employed as a labourer when he volunteered in August 1915, and was initially assigned to the 26th Infantry Battalion. When he arrived in Egypt, Pehow was transferred to 12th Battalion and embarked for France in April 1916. On 18 September 1918 when the Regiment was conducting operations east of Jeancourt, Pehow was killed in action. Private Thomas Pehow was buried at Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension.
