Veteran Story: Allan left Darwin aboard Ship "Z" on 19/8/1941 arriving in Sydney NSW on 31/8/1941. He was taken on strength with the Armoured Tank Regiment in Sydney and then transferred at Cowra to the 6th Armoured Regiment. While undertaking training he contracted the mumps and was hospitalised in Greta for 5 days. On discharge he transferred to Tamworth, then Dubbo before leaving for Darwin NT on 10/3/1942. On 2/4/1942 he boarded the SS Tarooma bound for Port Moresby New Guinea, and being taken on strength with the 29th Battalion. In October that year he left New Guinea on a hospital ship suffering from Denge Fever (Rheumatic Fever) arriving in Brisbane on 31/10/1942. He was evacuated from there to a convalescent hospital in Warwick Qld. After he had taken leave he returned to Redbank, but again the fever struck him down and this time he was taken by ambulance train to 103 Australian General Hospital in Sydney. Once recovered he spent time serving in Perth and Queensland. In 1944 the fever returned and he had many spells in hospitals. In June 1944 he transferred to the 2/3 Battalion in Queensland. On the 19/12/1944 he left Cairns on the ship "Jane Adams and disembarked at Aitape, New Guinea on 31/12/1944. On the 15/3/1945 Allan was Killed In Action and was buried in the field where he fell. His next of kin was notified of his death on 19/3/1945. His body was exhumed from "But Drome But West 1"876267 and reburied at Wewak War Cemetery on 10/12/1945.
