Veteran Story: Alexander was born in Tumut NSW on 7 March 1909 to parents James Abdullah and Eliza Martha Sheppard. He was stepbrother to Ambrose Abdullah (SN:5026), and brother to Thomas (SN:5228)(1901-1968), Michael (Miscery) (1903-1985) (SN: NX33984), Assavaile (1905-1978), Alma (1907-1954), Esther (1911-2004) and Richard (1915-1919). He had been living with family at Brungle for a period and moved with them to Casino. Alexander was working as a drover at the time he enlisted at Newcastle NSW on 11 July 1970. He was assigned to the 9th Battalion at Rutherford NSW on 15 July 1940. In late August he transferred to the 4 Infantry Training battalion and had moved to Tamworth NSW where he continued with his training for any posting overseas. In February 1941 he was taken on strength with the 2/30th Battalion and whilst with them had an accident that would see him in Sydney and declared unfit. On 28 March 1941 he was discharged medically unfit for service, not occasioned by his own fault. He married 1. Edna Florence May Williams at Casino in 1932 and 2. Beryl Emma May Harrison at Parramatta in 1963. Alexander died on 29 June 1993 at Westmead Hospital, Parramatta NSW and buried at Pinegrove Memorial Park, Minchinbury NSW.
