Alexander (Alicksunder) Abdullah
Alexander was born in Tumut NSW on 7 March 1909 to parents James Abdullah and Eliza Martha Sheppard. He was stepbrother to Ambrose Abdullah (SN:5026), and brother to Thomas (SN:5228)(1901-1968), Michael (Miscery) (1903-1985) (SN: NX33984), Assavaile (1905-1978), Alma (1907-1954), Esther (1911-2004) and Richard (1915-1919). He had been living with family at Brungle for a period and moved with them to Casino. Alexander was working as a drover at the time he enlisted at Newcastle NSW on 11 July 1970. He was assigned to the 9th Battalion at Rutherford NSW on 15 July 1940. In late August he transferred to the 4 Infantry Training battalion and had moved to Tamworth NSW where he continued with his training for any posting overseas. In February 1941 he was taken on strength with the 2/30th Battalion and whilst with them had an accident that would see him in Sydney and declared unfit. On 28 March 1941 he was discharged medically unfit for service, not occasioned by his own fault. He married 1. Edna Florence May Williams at Casino in 1932 and 2. Beryl Emma May Harrison at Parramatta in 1963. Alexander died on 29 June 1993 at Westmead Hospital, Parramatta NSW and buried at Pinegrove Memorial Park, Minchinbury NSW.
Ephata Sepon was born in 1918 on Badu Island, Queensland. When he enlisted on 11/9/1942 he was living on the island of his birth and was married to Betty. He served as a private in the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalion for 1180 days operating out of Thursday Island. He was taken on strength with the Torres Strait Camp Infantry Company. He discharged from service to the Protector if Islanders on the 3/12/1945. There is no record of medals in his service record. Epthata died on 28/8/1976. His daughter requested a copy of his records in the year 2000.
Jeffrey Musby is listed on the National Archives of Australia website as having served during WW2. However the only record of his service is a Soldiers Pay Adjustment. There is no digital record of his service available at this time.
Jeibi Paii is a Torres Strait Island Soldier who served in WWII with the Australian Army. As a civilian he worked as a seaman and lived on Saibai Island. He joined the service on 6/9/1942 in Cairns Queensland and served throughout the war amassing 1362 days of active service. He first served with the Torres Strait Light Infantry Battalion and on the 1/3/1943 he transferred to the Torres Strait Employment Company and worked there at the workshop on the water craft. In 1944 he contracted Malaria and was admitted to the 6th Australian General Hospital on Thursday Island where he remained for 13 days. On recovering he returned to work where he had previously been posted at the workshop for water craft. In September of 1944 he was again admitted to hospital with a recurrence of Malaria. In April 1946 he was charged with the offence of Using Threatening language, and Disobeying a direct order from a superior officer. As a sentence he was fined 5 pound and given 14 days detention. On 29/5/1946 he transferred out of the Torres Strait Employment Company to the Protector of Islanders for discharge. He was issued with Discharge Certificate No 372975 and War Badge No 350127.
