Veteran Story: Thomas (Tommy) Dodd (1892-1961) was born to Sarah Todd at Redcliffe Station near Hughendon. In 1916 he enlisted at Rockhampton and after training in Brisbane, left for England with the 16th Reinforcements for the 26th Infantry Battalion. He joined his battalion in the field in January 1917, and in October was wounded in the neck and face while at front lines at Ypres. Evacuated to hospital for treatment, he returned to his unit but was again wounded, by a gun shot to his right hand. Eventually discharged from hospital and given leave, he was medically discharged and repatriated to Australia not long after the armistice. Dodd returned to his work as a stockman in the Rockhampton district, he enlisted and served during the Second World War with the 15th Garrisonn Battalion at Sarina. He died in January 1961 and is buried at Norman Gardens, Rockhampton.
