Veteran Story: Arthur Perfect (1898-1979) was born to Alfred Perfect and Alice Cook, a descendent of Peggy Reid of the Burramatta clan of the Darug (Eora) nation. Arthur volunteered in May 1917 and was initially assigned to the 9th Infantry Battalion but after arriving in England he was transferred to the 15th. In April 1918 Arthur joined his battalion in the field at Villers-Bretonneux; he was wounded in action suffering a severe gun shot wound to his right thigh and back. Arthur did not return to the front line, after spending many weeks recovering from his wounds in England, he was returned to Australia in February 1919. In 1927 Arthur Perfect married Monica 'Mona' Sallows, they had three children, Arthur, Brian and Doreen. He returned to employment with the Queensland Railways, as a fireman and later engine driver.
